Rainy Day Walking…

Well… I managed to avoid nearly all of the cool things that were going on this weekend, and instead, focused on the sheer delight of being home… watching the rain, nesting, and getting crafty.

I did make a brief jaunt out Sunday afternoon (had to change out of my pj’s for the trip) to check out the Sausal Creek Native Plant Sale in Joaquin Miller Park. Took this shot on my way…

It was awfully pretty ~ I love the rain.

Chasing Spiders…

I warned you things might be sporadic. I didn’t lie.

Today you get spiders. Just because.

All shot today in my backyard, which was actually… a little scary.

Any arachnophiles out there wanna tell me what I’ve got??

I ♥ Oakland

A gorgeous mosaic at Bret Harte Middle School in Dimond District.  Fashioned together by students, including dozens of custom hand-painted tiles…

Painted sentiments include “I ♥ Oakland”, “East Oakland Pride”, “We love Oakland”, “HOPE”, and much much more…

This spotted in my soon-to-be-new-neighborhood. Regulars to this blog will note a heavy emphasis on Downtown/Uptown and West Oakland districts because that’s where I live now. But in the next couple of months I’ll be making my way over to Dimond district and I’m extremely excited to explore and discover more of Oaktown’s East Side!

Note added 4/28/2011:  I now know this project is titled “Spirit of Oakland” and was organized by artist/teacher Pam Consear.  See her blog-post documenting the work… “Spirit of Oakland,” Bret Harte Middle School, Oakland, CA

Running Festival Recap

So did you check it out?!?

Hopefully you did because it was a lot of fun, and I have to say I’m feeling pretty blissed out on Oakland right now.

A ton of beautiful people were out… it was a picture perfect day with our typically warmer-and-sunnier-than-San-Fran-weather… and spirits were high!  It’s hard to really recap the experience in words, so I’ll just share a few pictures and videos from the weekend…

Saturday was the Twilight 5k at Lake Merritt kickoff event. Here are a few pics… (more on Flickr).
